In the Anointing of the Sick we celebrate the symbolic action in which the person anointed encounters Christ the healer. Our purpose is to bring the support of the Church community to those who are suffering in body and mind, especially from fear or loneliness. Together we ask the Risen Christ to give the healing and wholeness that the person truly needs in the circumstances.
Any Catholic, from teenager on up, who is undergoing a serious illness or preparing for a major surgery, can receive the Sacrament of Anointing.
If you or a loved one wants to receive the Anointing, begin by calling the parish office, at 718-492-9200 to let us know. The Anointing can take place at home, in the hospital or in the church or rectory.
These days many people enter the hospital the very same day of their surgery or treatment. You may want to see a priest before that. You should be aware that hospitals do not call us to let us know you have been admitted. Therefore, if someone in your family is in the hospital, call the rectory and let us know. Besides the sick person’s name and the name of the hospital, kindly leave your own name and a phone number.
Is there someone at home who wishes a visit by a priest? Call us.
